During today's class we started to experiment with paint and cardboard, using light and shadow. Following what Magdi showed, we tried to create our own artworks using our imagination.
Using cardboard, Magdi told and showed us how we could express ourselves through that certain type of art. How it could show two different sides of the same person.
That however was only one use of the cardboard and we were allowed to do whatever we wished with it, "to let loose" being my perspective.
That aside, what Magdi did was drawing African faces and gluing down onto the cardboard. Following that he tore bits and crumpling the pieces still attached to the paper back onto the cardboard. The others were pasted onto a different part.
To be honest, the one part I think I enjoyed the most (not that I didn't enjoy the others) was the splattering of paint onto the artwork because it kind of completed the look and of course because it was fun.
However what astounded me the most was Magdis skill with the charcoal when he was drawing. The work was completed so fast! Perhaps within 20 min or less.
Overall I am very pleased to say that I have enjoyed this workshop and am looking forward to the next one!

  1. The whole idea behind this project is to open you up to many way that you can express yourself through. It is the way to tell your story as being a second generation Australian or a migrant. Cross culture is something very important to you and to the others. Many musician, artists, actors, writers live all around the world. The world become their home and they tell the stories of their background to the others. That is how others learn and interact. In our workshops, I do interact with all the students and try the best I can to be connected to every one of you. Connected to your thoughts, ideas and culture backgrounds. Despite that I'm the only Egyptian among you. Maybe you don't know much about my country and I don't much about yours. But countries, languages, believes and all boundaries all melt when we all come to work in art. It is the same when we all come to live in Australia. We all share the beauty and the magnificent variety of its nature, people and believes. I lived overseas for long, but to see a peaceful so city build on equal shares and interaction like in Australia that was quit amazing for me to live. You are different as me and as many others. We don't have to let our diversities be the boundaries, instead we can make melt by sharing as we all share the art workshop. In our blog this is all open to discussion as i would like you to comment the posts of your friends and have a chat with them on the blog. Agree and disagree and let them know how you are. You can do that only by making your concept expressing your background and make your story telling a way to be close to the others and inspire them with your art. I would love that you reply to me and let me know what do you think about that!
